Inspiring Youth through Literacy Skills

Conquering illiteracy one student at a time

Hope Literacy is designed to meet each student where they are in their literacy skills. Students engage in group games and activities in addition to receiving customized one on one tutoring.

We are currently serving elementary students in the Oak Park and South Sacramento areas of Sacramento County. We encourage life long learning as we tackle the need for literacy intervention one student at a time.

Reading is the key that opens doors to many good things in life. Reading shaped my dreams, and more reading helped me make my dreams come true.”

OUR OFFERINGS

BUILDING LIFE LONG LEARNERS:

EVALUATE

Students are evaluated to better meet each individual student’s literacy needs with a custom program.

ENRICH

Each student receives one on one tutoring twice a week. Students also play games in groups that further grow and enforce what they are learning.

ELEVATE

As students master literacy skills they become more confident. The sky is the limit as they are encouraged in life long learning!

Community service

We depend on volunteers to tutor our students. The more volunteers we have, the more students are able to participate in the program. Volunteers and tutors are trained by Hope Literacy director Julie O’Connor. If you can read, you can tutor a student!

High School students are also able to get community service hours for graduation requirements.

We are so thankful for all of our volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering with Hope Literacy you can click here and leave us your contact info.

partnerships

We love partnering with local schools and organizations. Many students come our way through relationships with schools. They already have a good grasp on the needs of their students and know which ones might benefit most from our program.

Growing Past Today has been a true partner and is heavily invested in the lives of the students in our program.
